Migrating Displays

This guide covers how to transition your physical display devices from the legacy platform to Inspire.

Overview

Migrating a display involves:

  1. Creating an equivalent endpoint in Inspire
  2. Preparing content in Inspire
  3. Re-pointing the device from the legacy platform to Inspire
  4. Verifying the display

The legacy platform and Inspire can run simultaneously on different ports or servers. You can migrate displays one at a time without downtime.

Step-by-Step Migration

Create the Inspire endpoint

In Inspire, navigate to Endpoints and create a new endpoint matching the legacy display’s configuration:

Legacy SettingInspire Equivalent
Display nameEndpoint name
ResolutionResolution
OrientationOrientation
Display groupDevice group

Prepare content

Recreate the display’s content in Inspire. If you have already migrated your connectors, the data bindings will work once connected to the new DataPool fields.

Re-point the device

On the physical device:

  1. Change the browser URL from the legacy server to the Inspire server’s pairing URL
  2. A pairing code appears on screen
  3. Enter the code in Inspire to pair the device to its new endpoint

Verify

Confirm the display is:

  • Showing the correct content
  • Receiving data updates
  • Reporting as online in Inspire’s device management

Decommission in the legacy platform

Once verified, remove the display from the legacy platform to avoid confusion.

Agile Client Migration

Legacy Agile Clients (desktop viewer applications) work the same way:

  1. Create an endpoint in Inspire
  2. Update the Agile Client to point to the Inspire URL
  3. The client pairs and receives content like any other display

Inspire’s Agile Client is built with Tauri. If you are using the legacy Electron-based Agile Client, upgrade to the Inspire Tauri client for significantly better performance and lower resource usage.

Batch Migration

For large deployments, migrate displays in groups:

  1. Migrate a pilot group (5-10 displays) first
  2. Verify content, data, and reliability over 1-2 days
  3. Migrate remaining displays in batches
  4. Keep the legacy platform running as a fallback until all displays are migrated

Rollback

If a display has issues on Inspire, you can temporarily point it back to the legacy platform:

  1. Change the device browser URL back to the legacy server
  2. The display reconnects to the legacy platform and resumes its previous content
  3. Investigate and resolve the Inspire issue
  4. Re-migrate when ready
